Lee Jung-jae becomes the first Asian male actor to win “Best Male Actor In A Drama Series” at SAG Awards

Actor Lee Jung-jae, who gained worldwide popularity through the success of Netflix’s “Squid Game”, won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards was held in Santa Monica, California, USA on the morning of Feb 28th (KST). Lee Jung-jae, who competed with Brian Cox (Succession), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), drew attention by winning the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.

Lee Jung-jae looked very surprised when he became the first Asian male actor to win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Lee Jung-jae expressed his emotions, “This is truly huge that it’s happened to me. I did write something but I don’t think I’ll get to reading it.”

He continued his acceptance speech, “Thank you so much. Thank you to the global audience for all of your love for ‘Squid Game’. And thank you ‘Squid Game’ team.”

At this awards ceremony, “Squid Game” was also selected as the “Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series”, an award given to works with the best action acting.

This was also the first time a non-English TV series has won the award, so it received warm applause.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game” tells the story of people who risk their lives participating in a mysterious survival game in order to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.
