Lee Joon Gi talks about having celebrity disease after ‘The King and the Clown’ success

Actor Lee Joon Gi revealed how he overcame his past slump.

Lee Joon Gi made a guest appearance on the August 30th broadcast of tvN’s entertainment program “You Quiz on the Block”.

Rising to stardom after starring in “The King and the Clown”, Lee Joon Gi recalled his success back then, saying “Nowadays, a hit work would be replaced within 3-6 months. At that time, ‘The King and the Clown’ did well and I mistakenly thought that the world centered around me.”

Regarding the reason he could admit to having a celebrity disease, Lee Joon Gi said, “It’s because I’m confident that I’ve already escaped from those things”, adding “People who have been with me since I was a rookie actor realized it first. They told me straightforwardly that if I continued living like that, I might have to give up my acting career. I thought If I didn’t change, I would cause trouble to many people.”

The actor continued, “Living with the thought that I was not that amazing, I realized that I actually received a lot of help from many people. I could have lost everything in an instant. It wouldn’t matter if I lost my career alone, but I believed that people who gave me opportunities would suffer damage. Facing the reality that I actually had nothing and the important thing was proving myself to the public, I was very scared. I felt the urgent need to change myself.”

Upon hearing Lee Joon Gi’s confession, Yoo Jae Suk praised, “Listening to the stories of those around you, trying to learn something, and asking yourself if you’re going the right way is amazing.”
