Lee Byung-hun: “I will never forget doing the stage greeting with Shin Min-ah at an empty 2,000-seat cinema” [27th BIFF]

Actor Lee Byung-hun recalled when “A Bittersweet Life” was released 17 years ago.

On the night of Oct 9th, the “Community BIFF Master Talk” event of the movie “A Bittersweet Life” (2005) was held at Lotte Cinema Daeyoung at BIFF Plaza-ro, Jung-gu, Busan. This is a two-way commentary show held as part of the 27th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) where special guests watch movies with the audience and communicate in real-time. Director Kim Ji-woon and lead actor Lee Byung-hun attended and communicate with the audience at the event.

On this day, Lee Byung-hun said, “’A Bittersweet Life’ was not very popular at the beginning of its release. Shin Min-ah, Kim Ji-woon and I went on to do the stage greeting at a 2,000-seat cinema, and it was almost empty. There were only about 30 to 40 people. I will never forget that scene in my life. What was that,” he shared the bittersweet story.

He continued, “I then talked with the audience. I remember that we didn’t talk unilaterally, but we had a conversation. I was really hopeless at the time. Thanks to this event, I am able to see my young self 17 years ago, so it was a great time.”
