Kpop industry’s struggles due to coronavirus: A series of idols tested positive, continuously postponed concerts, canceled schedules

It can be seen that the pandemic has had significant effects on the Kpop market until now.

In recent years, the Korean music industry has been struggling due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. These effects have largely come from the cancellation of music festivals, live performances and a drop in ticket sales. Also, many Kpop idols and celebrities have to suspend their activities and delay their comeback schedule due to their infection with the virus.

The epidemic situation has become complicated, causing many celebrities to get infected as they often have to work with many people. In particular, for idols who work in groups, cross-infection is inevitable, with many consequences affecting the schedule.

Recently, JYP’s rookie girl group, NMIXX, is receiving a lot of attention from the online community because of their gorgeous visuals and good singing and dancing skills. However, in the process of promoting the debut product O.O, the group had to temporarily suspend activities because two members, Sullyoon and Jinni, were positive for Covid-19. This is considered extremely unfortunate when the JYP girl group hasn’t been released to the public for a long time but had to temporarily stop promoting, causing the name to cool down a bit.

Besides NMIXX, all schedules of EXO Kai‘s activities were also canceled when he was confirmed to be positive for Covid-19 and is being quarantined and treated at home.

IVE, another rookie also receiving a lot of attention recently, has just announced that its member Gaeul has Covid-19 and is temporarily suspending her activities. Although the remaining members currently have no symptoms and are self-monitoring their health, IVE’s schedule is still affected.

Not long ago, a large number of famous idols also continuously confirmed positive for the virus and had to cancel all activities schedules such as V (BTS), Rosé (BLACKPINK), Soobin (TXT), Minhyun (NU’EST), Hyunsik (BTOB), Hoshi (SEVENTEEN), etc., making the Kpop fan community extremely worried.

Being one of the leading entertainment industries in Asia, but now the Korean entertainment industry is in a more gloomy state than ever due to constantly facing the wave of epidemics. Fans all hope that the idols will quickly recover and rest well to be fully healthy when they return to work.

Difficulty in organizing concerts: Having to limit the audience or postpone indefinitely due to the artist’s infection

Concerts of Korean idols have always brought huge profits to the economy of the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators. However, since the pandemic broke out in the past 2 years, a series of music festivals and concerts in Korea have been canceled, causing great losses to entertainment companies. Even music shows during the week are filmed without an audience, and idols who debut during this time are often subjected to performing without fans.

During the outbreak of the pandemic, because they could not hold live concerts, Kpop idols changed to online concerts. But undeniably, this will only be a temporary solution because the revenue from online concerts certainly can’t be compared to a grand live concert.

Recently, to adapt to the social situation but still ensure economic development, the Korean government has agreed to reorganize concerts on a small scale. Therefore, to comply with safety in the prevention of the epidemic, the concert must be held within a certain number of people, ensuring the distance as well as the fans not cheering.

After more than two years of delaying the concert due to the epidemic, BTS has officially reunited with their hometown audience with the concert Permission To Dance On Stage – Seoul since the tour Love Yourself: Speak Yourself The Final in October 2019. However, to ensure compliance with epidemic prevention measures, the concert can only accommodate a maximum of 15,000 people out of a total capacity of 70,000 at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium. And also according to the rules, participating fans are not allowed to cheer, but instead can only clap according to the performances.

In recent days, the Red Velvet fan community is extremely excited when the group has just announced their return to the music industry with the mini-album The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm as well as the announcement of the 2022 The ReVe Festival live concert: Prologue on March 19th and 20th.

However, the fans did not rejoice for long when they heard that SM announced that 3 of the group members, Irene, Joy and Yeri, were tested positive for Covid-19. Therefore, the group’s concert will be postponed indefinitely depending on the health of the members as well as the epidemic situation, and tickets will be refunded to fans. The promotion schedule for the upcoming comeback must also be improvised based on the health status of the SM girl group.
