Korean netizens rage at Henry being appointed as School Violence Prevention Ambassador, “Honorary Chinese OUT”
Henry recently delivered the news of him being selected as School Violence Prevention Ambassador, causing netizens’ frustration.
Henry recently attended the ceremony to appoint the School Violence Prevention Ambassador, which was held at Mapo Police Station in Seoul and heralded full-fledged activities.
In the future, Henry will produce posters and videos to promote the prevention of school violence in line with young people’s trends. He plans to actively carry out promotional activities by utilizing various SNS channels as well as outdoor electronic displays.
Henry said, “I love children so much and have also made various content with teenagers. It is such a great honor for me to participate in the prevention of school violence in earnest”, adding, “I will do my best at any time, in any work that can help all students enjoy their school life”.
However, netizens who heard the news poured out anger, saying, “Henry is not suitable as a public relations ambassador.” This is because his recent pro-China activities have affected him.
Earlier in October last year, Henry was criticized by Korean netizens for posting a video of him playing a song called “I Love You, China”. Afterwards, he participated as a judge in the Chinese dance entertainment program “Street Dance of China Season 4” along with Hankyung, Wang Yibo and Lay, causing disappointment one after another.
Besides, he once wrote on Weibo, “I love Chengdu a lot. See you next time.” Henry also uploaded a post to congratulate the Chinese National Day, drawing attention from Korean netizens.
Netizens criticized, “It isn’t appropriate for a foreigner who supports ‘One China’ to become Korean police’s ambassador”, “I don’t want to see an honorary Chinese”, “I didn’t even know he was in Korea” and “We have to officially protest.”
Meanwhile, Henry grew up in a Chinese-Canadian household and his nationality is Canadian. He was born to a Hong Kong father and a Taiwanese mother. He made his debut under Super Junior M in 2008 and is currently active in both Korea and China.
