“Korea will make the next global phenomenon”, said Hollywood experts

Hollywood experts acknowledge the growth in relevance of Korean culture, and believe that “the next Squid Game” will be made in Korea.

On December 12th (local time), media outlet Bloomberg released the results of their survey on the future of entertainment, which was conducted with 50 Hollywood professionals and experts, including producers, executives, agents, and lawyers.

In this survey, Hollywood experts picked Korea as the forein country that will produce the next global phenomenon like “Squid Game”. “Korean culture — TV, food, music — is continuing to grow in relevance, especially among young people,” they explained.

On the other hand, India and Israel are the runners-up to this question, with experts mentioning the importance of the Indian diaspora and their willingness to watch shows with an emphasis on Indian culture.

Then, when asked which streaming service to sell contents to, there were tied votes for Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Netflix. The next popular answer is that they would sell to “the highest bidder”, aka the platform that pays the most money.

As for their favorite method of episode release, most experts prefer one episode release per week. Some also selected the format of releasing a few episodes in the 1st week and one episode per week afterwards.

Many also believe that the cinema industry won’t be able to grow bigger than it was prior to COVID-19, stating that consumer behavior has been greatly adjusted through the pandemic.

On the other hand, “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler was Hollywood’s favorite to work with and Zendaya was their favorite actor/influencer to invest in, according to Bloomberg’s survey. Finally, Disney was selected as the top choice for investment, under the requirement that sales are banned for 5 years.

Meanwhile, the Netflix series “Squid Game”, which shook the world in 2021 and established a new standing for Korean contents, is preparing for season 2 after sweeping various awards ceremonies.
