On February 10, Taiwanese outlet ETtoday reported that Koo Jun-yup had hired a lawyer and was allegedly preparing for a legal battle with his mother-in-law regarding the inheritance of the late Barbie Hsu. The report suggested that despite their united appearance at a recent first death anniversary memorial event, tensions were allegedly escalating behind the scenes.
According to the outlet, Barbie Hsu’s mother had retained an inheritance law specialist, while Koo Jun-yup had also secured legal representation, fueling speculation of an intense dispute between mother-in-law and son-in-law.
Mother and Sister Issue Firm Denial
However, Barbie Hsu’s mother immediately dismissed the rumors. “I call Koo Jun-yup my son,” she stated. “He deeply loved my daughter and respects me. I love him as well. A petty dispute that wastes money and manpower only causes stress.” Her statement firmly rejected claims of any inheritance conflict.
Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, also spoke out in support of Koo Jun-yup. She said, “My brother-in-law gave my sister pure love and allowed her to experience true happiness. We are always grateful. He is our family. We will never harm him and will protect him. Please stop the rumors and malicious gossip.”

Barbie Hsu’s estate is estimated to be worth approximately 46 billion KRW. Previously, Koo Jun-yup publicly stated, “All of the inheritance is the precious result of Hee-won’s hard work for her family,” and expressed his intention to transfer his legal inheritance rights to her mother.
Koo Jun-yup, a first-generation Hallyu star and member of the duo CLON, dated Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu in the late 1990s before separating. The couple reunited more than 20 years later and married in 2022, a love story that captured widespread public attention.
