“Kokdu: Season of Deity” Kim Jung Hyun mentioned controversy over private life “I’m working hard with a grateful heart”
At the press conference of “Kokdu: Season of Deity”, actor Kim Jung Hyun mentioned the controversy over his private life and expressed his new mindset.
The press conference of MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Kokdu: Season of Deity” (written by Kang Yi Heon, Heo Jun Woo/directed by Baek Soo Chan, Kim Ji Hoon) was held at MBC Golden Mouse Hall in Sangam-gu, Seoul on Jan 27th. Director Baek Soo Chan, actors Kim Jung Hyun, Im Soo Hyang, Kim Da Som, Ahn Woo Yeon, Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa attended the event.
“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is about a grim reaper named Kokdu who visits the mortal world every 99 years to punish humans. He meets Han Gye Jeol, a doctor with mysterious abilities, and starts working as a visiting doctor. Kim Jung Hyun plays “Kokdu”, an underworld god who has been cursed to lead the deceased in the afterlife after angering the Creator, and has to enter a human body that looks just like him to carry out the murders of immoral people. He then possesses a human named Do Jin Woo, and gets entangled with Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang).
Kim Jung Hyun was one of the hottest names in the entertainment industry in 2021. It was revealed that Kim Jung Hyun caused huge damage to the whole production team of the drama “Time” in 2018 because he was gaslighted by his ex-girlfriend Seo Ye Ji. Actress Seo Ye Ji reportedly forced Kim Jung Hyun to ask the director and writer to revise the script as well as avoid affectionate scenes and getting close to his female co-stars.
At the press conference, Kim Jung Hyun did a 90 degree bow and said, “I prepared with a fresh heart. I’ll work hard.” He explained the reason for his appearance in “Kokdu: Season of Deity”, “The script is an important part in choosing the work. However, I’m grateful to MBC for reaching out to me first during my self-reflection time. I want to say thank you to MBC’s officials.“
“There were a lot of personal matters, but I think it’s time to look back and reflect on myself and show myself a little better. I’m so nervous now, but I’ve been worried that I might cause trouble to the team members since the beginning of the work. I’m working hard with a grateful heart, so I hope you enjoy it,” the actor added.
Regarding his special mindset of working on his comeback project after 2 years, Kim Jung Hyun expressed, “I learned a lot of new things while working on this project, and I find the efforts of people who are with me more visible. I’m getting on set with gratitude. Even if it’s hard, I try to say hello brightly, and if possible, I try to call out the names of the staff. My most transparent feeling is gratitude.”
To prospective viewers, Kim Jung Hyun revealed his determination and said, “If there is something lacking with me, or if there is something that has not been filled, I think that I have to work hard and try to show a better image.”
Regarding the reason for casting Kim Jung Hyun, director Baek Soo Chan said, “The casting was decided even before I took on the directing role. (Due to the controversy over Kim Jung Hyun’s private life) there were parts that I was cautious about, but I have a lot of respect for him as an actor. So, I gladly said, ‘Let’s do our best’. I have a lot of friends, but he is one who encouraged me a lot so that I could become stronger and do well. I think he is the right man for the role.”
Meanwhile, “Kokdu: Season of Deity” will be broadcast for the first time at 9:50 PM (KST) on January 27th.
