Kim Yoo Jung to lead the theater play “Shakespeare in Love” alongside Kim Sung Chul

Actress Kim Yoo Jung, who has earned the title “Global first love”, will challenge her first theatrical play with “Shakespeare in Love” alongside actor Kim Sung Chul .

According to a coverage of Spotify News on November 8th, Kim Yoo Jung will appear as the female lead Viola, daughter of a nobleman, in the theatrical play “Shakespeare in Love”, which opens in early 2023. This will be the actress’ first challenge with the theater since her debut. 

In addition, actor Kim Sung Cheol will appear as Shakespeare, the male lead of the play. 

“Shakespeare in Love”, which will premiere in Korea, is based on a 1998 movie of the same name. Starting from the wild imagination that “Romeo and Juliet” was inspired from a romance of great writer Shakespeare when he was young, a love story was born. The play, which is set in London in 1593, follows the promising playwright and young man William Shakespeare, who met and fell in love with Viola, the daughter of a nobleman who came to an audition for a play.

Kim Yoo Jung, who debuted with a CF for a confectionery company in 2003, is considered the “nation’s younger sister” and stands tall as a young star through child roles in popular K-dramas. Now, she has been reborn as a “global first love” via her latest film “20th Century Girl” on Netflix. She is also set to make a special appearance in director Lee Byung Hun’s new film “Sweet and Sour Chicken”.

On the other hand, Kim Sung Cheol debuted through stage musicals before making a prominent mark in the drama industry with works like “Prison Play Book”, “Do You Like Brahms?”, “Vincenzo”, and “Our Beloved Summer”. He will also play the Crown Prince So Hyun in the movie “Owl”, which will be released on November 23rd.
