Netflix is set to premiere its highly anticipated series Genie, Make a Wish on October 3, just in time for Chuseok, teasing a sweet yet twisted romance between Kim Woo Bin and Suzy.
The fantasy rom-com follows Jinn (Kim Woo Bin), a lamp spirit awakening from a long sleep of thousands of years, who encounters Ka Young (Suzy), a woman devoid of emotion. The two engage in a tense and whimsical battle over three wishes, blending sharp humor, fantastical elements, and unexpected romantic sparks. Fans are especially excited to see Kim Woo Bin and Suzy reunite as the ultimate “rom-com cheat code” duo after nearly a decade.
New still cuts reveal both actors’ striking transformations. Kim Woo Bin’s Jinn exudes charisma and mystery in one moment, only to appear comically clumsy the next—dressed in work pants and boots, slumped in a rice field. Meanwhile, Suzy’s Ka Young radiates icy beauty but surprises with a bizarre twist as she brandishes a kitchen knife over a rice cake, hinting at her unusual personality.
Their eccentric pairing promises unusual chemistry. Even as Jinn attempts to corrupt humans with his powers, Ka Young remains unfazed, focused solely on her breakfast. Kim Woo Bin described Jinn as “a character difficult to define in one word—strong, cruel, timid, sometimes even cute. He may act like a person, but he’s not human, so I wanted everything—his speech, expressions, physique, and styling—to feel just slightly different.” Suzy added that Ka Young is “a woman raised by strict routines under her grandmother, appearing cold and robotic because she learned to ‘pretend’ empathy rather than feel it. She may not be cute, but she’s upright in her own way.”
With its quirky premise, magnetic leads, and striking visuals, Genie, Make a Wish is poised to capture audiences worldwide when it launches globally on Netflix on October 3.
