On September 30, YouTube channel “Entertainment President Lee Jin Ho” uploaded a video titled “Why Did Kim Soo Hyun Publicly Reveal Old Letters? The Truth Behind the Two-Timing Allegations!” The channel reported that Kim Soo Hyun is currently under extreme stress and has turned to hiking alone as a way to calm his mind.
The controversy reignited after Kim’s legal representative, attorney Go Sang-rok of Law Firm Pil, disclosed more than 150 letters Kim had written during his military service to his then-girlfriend, aiming to counter allegations of a secret relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron. The channel claimed this move sparked further speculation about “two timing,” though it acknowledged the difficulty of proving something did not occur.
Earlier this year, Kim Sae Ron’s family alleged she and Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship since her middle school years. In May, an audio recording surfaced in which Kim Sae Ron allegedly claimed she had dated him since adolescence. Kim’s agency Gold Medalist refuted the claims, arguing the file had been fabricated with AI. This latest disclosure marks Kim’s first formal rebuttal in five months.
Go Sang-rok dismissed the family’s claims, stating: “The idea that the late actress dated Kim Soo Hyun for six years starting from middle school is completely false and lacks any factual basis.” He clarified that all so-called “intimate photos” were taken between late 2019 and spring 2020, when Kim Sae Ron was already an adult. According to him, their relationship began in the summer of 2019 and ended the following spring.
He further explained that if they had dated since middle school, photos from that time should exist, but none do. He also released records from Kim Soo Hyun’s military service, noting that the letters written during his enlistment were personal reflections on daily life and future plans, not love letters to Kim Sae Ron. The single letter addressed to her, he emphasized, fell within the same category.
The controversy traces back to a March 2024 KakaoTalk draft statement reportedly written by Kim Sae Ron. Go argued that the draft contained multiple falsehoods, including misrepresenting her age to frame Kim Soo Hyun as having dated a minor: “She wrote, ‘I was 16, he was 30,’ which was a malicious distortion.” He also clarified that the selfie posted and deleted by Kim Sae Ron was in fact taken in February 2020, when she was already a college sophomore.
Go condemned the broader issue, stressing: “The damage Kim Soo Hyun has suffered stems from systemic and malicious cybercrimes. Fake news is not content—it is a crime. Cyber extortion today is comparable to organized crime and must be decisively confronted by society as a whole.”
