On October 1, the Korean and global fan union for Kim Soo Hyun (including DC Inside Kim Soo Hyun Gallery, Daum Café Yukaris, and fanbases from 15 countries) issued an official statement in both Korean and English, demanding: “Stop the secondary harm against actor Kim Soo Hyun.”

The fandom criticized certain YouTube channels and media outlets for distorted reports and baseless claims. “Speculative interpretations and the reproduction of false information about the actor must stop immediately,” the statement read.

The controversy stemmed from a video released on September 30 by YouTuber Lee Jin Ho on the channel “Entertainment President.” In the video, Lee claimed that Kim Soo Hyun was under extreme stress and had been hiking alone to find peace of mind. To support this, he showed a photo of the actor on a mountain. However, fans pointed out that the photo was not recent but one Kim Soo Hyun himself had uploaded back in August 2022. They stressed that repurposing old images as if they were current created “false perceptions, unnecessary misunderstandings, and serious secondary harm.”

The fan union further emphasized: “We are deeply concerned that unverified reporting could place additional burden and harm on the actor. The media must uphold accuracy and responsibility, ensuring they do not damage his reputation by spreading unconfirmed information.”

Meanwhile, on September 30, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative, attorney Go Sang Rok, released materials via his YouTube community to prove that Kim had a girlfriend between 2016 and the spring of 2019 during his military service, refuting ongoing speculation linking him romantically to the late Kim Sae Ron. Go explained that the diary-like letters Kim wrote during service were shared with this girlfriend, confirming their relationship at the time.
