On October 2, attorney Go Sang Rok of the law firm Pil told Edaily, “The core of this issue is fabricated evidence. The perpetrators disguised photos from Kim Sae Ron’s adult years as if they were proof of an underage relationship.”
Go clarified that all photos presented so far were from 2019, when Kim Sae Ron was already a university student. “Despite claims that thousands of photos exist, not a single additional one has been produced in six months—and never will be, because they don’t exist. Kim Soo Hyun never dated Kim Sae Ron during her minor years,” he said firmly.
To further prove this, Go revealed excerpts from Kim Soo Hyun’s military diaries and letters written to his actual girlfriend at the time, stressing they contrasted with the one casual letter Kim Sae Ron received. That single note, he explained, was more like a personal essay, reflecting daily life and future plans, not a love letter. “From enlistment until discharge, Kim Soo Hyun was wholly committed to his girlfriend, expressing gratitude and affection just like any young man in the military would. Kim Sae Ron was only a colleague in the industry, nothing more,” Go stated.
He also pointed out that Kim Soo Hyun’s habit of using affectionate words such as “lovely” and “cute” extended to many around him, including agency staff and colleagues, reflecting his personality rather than romantic intent.
Go addressed photos allegedly showing Kim Sae Ron at Kim Soo Hyun’s home, clarifying that the house belonged to Kim Soo Hyun’s brother, who was also his agency CEO. “When Kim Sae Ron visited, Kim Soo Hyun’s brother was there the entire time, even speaking with her for over 30 minutes about her career. It was never a secret date but a natural gathering, given the limited privacy celebrities have in public,” he explained.
The controversy began when YouTube channel Garosero Institute claimed Kim Soo Hyun dated Kim Sae Ron as a minor, repeatedly releasing photos and statements they claimed were proof. Kim Soo Hyun’s agency Gold Medalist quickly denied the allegations and filed lawsuits for stalking and defamation. The Seoul Central District Court issued a provisional order for Garosero Institute to cease stalking activities. Although Garosero Institute appealed, the court dismissed it. Meanwhile, the late actress’s family and Garosero Institute presented a recorded conversation suggesting a long-term relationship, but Kim Soo Hyun’s team insists the recording was manipulated with AI. The file is currently under forensic review.
Go expressed frustration at the drawn-out investigation: “The accumulation of fabricated claims has trapped the victim in deep helplessness. He is forced to disclose private diaries and letters to defend himself, which is a heartbreaking reality for both him and his family.”
He concluded, “This is not mere content—it is a crime. Fake news is organized cyber violence that society must confront decisively. The essence of this case is evidence fabrication. Restoring truth is not just about Kim Soo Hyun’s recovery but also about protecting human rights and justice. We urge society to remain attentive until his innocence is fully recognized and the harm completely undone.”
