On January 22, actor Kim Seon-ho met with reporters at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, for an interview related to Netflix’s original series Can This Love Be Translated?.
Can This Love Be Translated? is a romantic comedy that follows Ju Ho-jin, a multilingual interpreter portrayed by Kim Seon-ho, who becomes the interpreter for global top star Cha Mu-hee, played by Go Youn-jung. The series explores romance through language, communication, and emotional nuance.
This project marks Kim Seon-ho’s return to the romantic comedy genre five years after Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha aired on tvN in 2021. Addressing his choice to take on the role, Kim Seon-ho emphasized that genre alone was not the deciding factor. Instead, he was drawn to the script and the character, explaining that the role felt both achievable and meaningful to him.
He further explained what drew him to the character and story and added that the profession of an interpreter and the idea that “everyone has their own language” were particularly appealing. Kim Seon-ho also noted that his admiration for the Hong Sisters’ previous works influenced his decision, stating that he approached the project with his full effort.
Speaking about working with the Hong Sisters, Kim Seon-ho praised their distinctive writing style and clarity.
“There was an unexpected quality to the script,” he said. “The writers had a very clear picture of where the story was going. Ho-jin’s lines may look formal, but the language itself was beautiful. Their confidence in the writing made me think, ‘These writers are truly different.’”
During the interview, Kim Seon-ho was also asked about Shin Min-a’s recent wedding to actor Kim Woo-bin. The couple tied the knot on December 20 after a 10-year public relationship, drawing significant attention from fans.
Given the lasting popularity of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, many were curious whether Kim Seon-ho attended the ceremony. He explained that he was unable to do so due to his filming schedule abroad.
“I was filming in Vietnam at the time,” Kim Seon-ho said, expressing regret. “I couldn’t attend, but I did contact her.”
He added warmly, “I’m really happy for them and truly support them. I couldn’t go, but I sent my congratulations.”
Meanwhile, Can This Love Be Translated? has been released in full on Netflix and is now available to audiences worldwide.
