Kim Jong Kook revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes tradition from the 1990s music industry during his appearance on Problem Child in House.
The upcoming May 7 episode will feature legendary “eardrum boyfriends” of the Korean music scene, including Kim Hyun Chul, Lee Hyun Woo, and Kim Jong Kook.
During the show, Kim Hyun Chul reminisced about the close atmosphere among singers in the 1990s.
“Back then, all singers shared one waiting room during music broadcasts,” he explained, highlighting the strong sense of unity regardless of genre or generation.

Kim Jong Kook then shared an even more surprising story about music show culture at the time. “Managers of the No.1 nominees would already be looking for places to hold company dinners during the live broadcast,” he revealed.
According to him, it was common practice for the artist who won first place to pay for a massive after-party attended by every performer appearing on the show.
“The singer who ranked first paid for the gathering. Every cast member attended,” he said, impressing everyone with stories of the industry’s strong camaraderie.
Kim Jong Kook also unexpectedly mentioned actress Jin Kyung, saying she occasionally attended those gatherings as well.

The actress humorously admitted: “I was a radio DJ at the time, so I was close with singers. I went around collecting leftovers from those events.”
Meanwhile, Kim Jong Kook also brought up his long-running “rivalry” with Lee Hyun Woo from his Turbo days.
“Whenever Turbo was about to win a Golden Cup after getting first place for five consecutive weeks, Lee Hyun Woo would suddenly make a comeback,” he joked.
Kim Jong Kook added that he lost two or three potential Golden Cups because of Lee Hyun Woo’s timing, while Lee Hyun Woo laughingly reflected on his unexpected reputation as “Turbo’s sniper.”
The episode is expected to deliver nostalgic stories and rare behind-the-scenes moments from the golden era of Korean music broadcasts.
