Kim Jae-joong Recalled Living With His 20-year-older Sister’s 3-generation Family During Trainee Days

In the latest episode of KBS 2TV’s “Stars” Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant,” which aired on July 5th, Kim Jae-joong invited his first sister, who was 20 years older than him, to his house for a meal. Kim Jae-joong introduced, “She is 20 years older than me, and she is the pillar of the family.” Kim Jae-joong made spicy chicken soup for his sister, and she was satisfied, saying, “How can it taste so good like this? It tastes like cod soup.”

Also in this episode, Kim Jae-joong confessed to his sister, “I’m still sorry to my nieces and nephews. When I had nowhere to go and live, my sister gave me a room. That was already 20 years ago.” He said, “After I came to Seoul, I received little financial support. As a trainee, I worked part-time daily and I often went home the next morning,” and added, “It was a difficult time. There were many times when I didn’t have enough money for subway. I was short of 50 won so I could use the subway and had to walk a long way from Apgujeong to Euljiro 3-ga.”

Kim Jae-joong recalled, “At first, the 16 years old me thought, ‘I’ll do it on my own.’ I listened to music on the bridge while walking a long way, so I improved my singing a lot then.”

He said, “We had never lived together before, but I ended up living in my sister’s house. It was a house where my two nephews lived with my brother-in-law, sister, and her mother-in-law. My nephews stayed in the living room because I took away their room. I was so sorry.”

Kim Jae-joong’s sister said, “My mother-in-law and Jae-joong are friends. She called him ‘Uncle Jae-joong’, she really liked him and took care of him a lot more than I did. She said he didn’t look like her in-law’s brother, but more like her brother or her grandson.” Kim Jae-joong also said, “She called me her grandkids’ uncle. When I went home late after practicing, she told me, ‘Why did you come home late, uncle? Did you eat? Eat something’

When Kim Jae-joong heard from his sister that her mother-in-law is now 95 years old, he added, “I’m grateful that even though she has light Alzheimer, she likes it so much whenever someone mentions me.”
