Kim Hieora’s Sudden Withdrawal from New Drama ‘Jeong Nyeon’: Was it Because of School Violence Allegations?

Kim Hieora’s previous departure from MBC’s drama 'Jeong Nyeon' gains attention amid school violence controversy.

A few months back, Kim Hieora confirmed her participation in the upcoming MBC drama ‘Jeong Nyeon.’ ‘Jeong Nyeon’ revolves around a female theater group with a storyline centered on female traditional Korean musicians. The drama has garnered significant attention even before its premiere, as it features prominent actresses and is based on a popular webtoon of the same name.

MBC previously announced the casting of remarkable actresses like Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, and Moon So Ri. The casting of Kim Hieora was announced in April, but it was suddenly revealed in August that she would no longer be appearing in the drama.

At the time, Kim Hieora cited “personal reasons” for her withdrawal, but the real reason was the allegation of school violence that has been circulating in the TV industry.

According to OSEN on September 6th, the allegations of school violence surrounding Kim Hieora had been circulating in the broadcasting industry even before the airing of tvN’s ‘The Uncanny Counter 2’.

This situation added to the risk that Kim Hieora posed for the drama, as industry insiders were already aware of her school violence controversy. However, since there was no concrete evidence or disclosure, the drama began production.

The media explained, “During this process, unverified serious rumors about Kim Hieora spread alongside the allegations of school violence.” In response, the ‘Jeong Nyeon’ production team demanded proof that the rumors were baseless, leading to a deepening conflict between both parties. Ultimately, as a resolution couldn’t be reached, Kim Hieora decided to withdraw from ‘Jeong Nyeon.’

Regarding these rumors, the media contacted Kim Hieora’s agency multiple times for verification. At the time, the agency firmly stated that “it is absolutely untrue and baseless.” In fact, due to these rumors, Kim Hieora’s appearance on ‘SNL Korea’ Season 4 was postponed once but recently completed. The episode was originally scheduled to air on September 9th but was delayed due to her school violence allegations.

On another note, Dispatch reported that Kim Hieora was a member of ‘Big Sangji,’ an iljin gang at Sangji Girls’ Middle School. ‘Big Sangji’ was alleged to be a group of bullies within the school that engaged in activities such as harassment, assault, and verbal abuse. In response, Kim Hieora’s side acknowledged her being a part of ‘Big Sangji’ but denied any involvement in school violence, saying that she was not part of the bullying clique.
