In a recent web content, Kim Hee Chul explained why he chose not to address his gay rumor in the past.
On August 16th, a video titled “Handsome Lunatics Jang Geun Suk & Kim Hee Chul | I am Jang Geun Suk EP19” was published on the official YouTube channel of Jang Geun Suk.
In the video, Jang Geun Suk reminisced about the time he and Kim Hee Chul co-hosted SBS’s “Inkigayo” in 2006 or 2007, adding, “Come to think of it, since I debuted, it has been 33 years now. But the first time I saw Hee Chul was 20 years ago”
According to the duo, they last met around 6 to 7 years ago. However, they have been in touch and often converse.
Now that they finally met, Jang Geun Suk showed his phone, which has around 7 to 8 numbers saved under Kim Hee Chul’s name. “To be honest, when I saw you, there was something I really wanted to ask you. Why are you changing your phone number so often?”, the male star playfully asked.
Regarding this, Kim Hee Chul explained that extreme fans would contact him right away whenever he went to a mobile carrier. “They still do that these days”, the male idol said, adding, “So, I have no choice but to change my number frequently.”
Kim Hee Chul then mentioned that he finds it surprising how even though there are many young and good-looking idols now, people still love him so passionately.
“Back in the days, when fans said, ‘Wow’, both of us were like, ‘I love it’. But now, if they cheer me on, it is a little embarrassing”, the male idol expressed.
Hearing this, Jang Geun Suk joked about how Kim Hee Chul is getting older, making him shy about such discussions.
Afterwards, at the question “If I was a woman, I’d date Kim Hee Chul or Jang Geun Suk?”, the latter surprisingly replied, “Honestly, I think I’d date Hee Chul. Because Hee Chul has changed and looks really stable now.”
Meanwhile, Hee Chul responded, “If it’s now, I’d date Geun Suk too”, but added that he wouldn’t date the Geun Suk of the past, saying, “At the time, there was no place to sit near Geun Suk. At the time, many beautiful women were always sitting next to Geun Suk.”
Moving on, Kim Hee Chul mentioned a past incident, where both he and Jang Geun Suk were rumored to be gay.
“We both loved fashion/ And we were both too skinny, and we even wore female clothing sometimes”, he said, adding, “It’s not that big of a deal, so I thought there was no reason to explain myself. There’s no need to explain. It’s because we looked like that and seemed different.”
The male idol also cited a quote from Michael Jackson, who mentioned that it doesn’t matter whether his fans like men or women.
Finally, Kim Hee Chul humorously explained why he addresses gay rumor now, saying, “Now I need to explain. I’m at the age to get married”, drawing attention.
