Kep1er is under fire for changing one line during their BLACKPINK cover

Kep1er received criticism for their cover of a BLACKPINK’s song at KCON 2023.

Of late, the “KCON 2023” took place and gathered a lineup of fan-favorite Korean acts and artists namely ATEEZ, Bambam, (G)I-DLE, ITZY, iKON and many more. One stage managed to grab viewers’ attention was Kep1er’s cover of “Shut Down” by BLACKPINK.

While giving a well-prepared stage with attractive formation, Kep1er was criticized for changing the iconic opening line, “BLACKPINK in your area” to “Kep1er in your area”, for the purpose of the performance.

Fans quickly weighed Kep1er’s performance to STAYC’s “DDU-DU DDU-DU” cover at the same event last year. They was praised by netizens for omitting the line entirely and got into the performance at once.

Similarly, ONEUS used the same strategy when they did a cover of BLACKPINK’s “PINK VENOM.” Nonetheless, some took Kep1er’s side and stated many other groups doing covers of BLACKPINK’s songs also replaced BLACKPINK with the names of their respective groups.

Netizens gave their opinions on the matter: “It is more reasonable to omit the line,” “STAYC received a lot of praise by excluding the opening line.”
