Earlier in “Music Bank” broadcast on May 13th, Lim Young-woong’s “If We Ever Meet Again” and LE SSERAFIM’s “Fearless” were nominated for the 1st place, and eventually LE SSERAFIM took the trophy. Lim Young-woong was far ahead of LE SSERAFIM in digital and physical points but came in second place because he received no points in the broadcasting category. Immediately after the broadcast, netizens complained of unfairness in the scoring calculation.

In response to the controversy, CP Han Dong-kyu explained, “As it was announced on Music Bank’s website, the K-chart’s scoring system includes ‘digital (60%) + broadcasting (20%) + viewers’ preference (10%), physical (5%), and SNS (5%)’. Other music programs determine their rankings by applying a similar scoring system that meets their own standards”.

He added, “In order to secure fairness while calculating scores, scores are aggregated and ranked using data from various external specialized institutions, and we also try to increase accuracy by reaffirming data before announcing the ranking results.”

In addition, CP Han Dong-kyu revealed the result of their data analysis, saying, “Points were counted from May 2nd to May 8th, 2022. During that period, Lim Young-woong’s song ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ was not broadcast on KBS TV, radio, and digital contents. In a survey conducted with 17,609 KBS National Panel members by the KBS Public Media Research Insitute, this song also received a response rate of 0%.”

He continued, “Other songs of Lim Young-woong, ‘Trust in Me’ and ‘My Starry Love’ recorded 2.63% and 2.52% in response rate, respectively, but they were not nominated on Music Bank”

Lastly, CP Han Dong-kyu said, “Our production team will continue to be more careful in the scoring calculation so that the singers’ performances and viewers’ support can be faithfully reflected”.
