Kang Dong Won explained his criteria for choosing projects

On September 13th, Kang Dong Won appeared on tvN’s ‘Yoo Quiz On The Block‘ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Yoo Quiz’).

This is Kang Dong Won’s first appearance on a variety show after 19 years. He revealed that his last variety show appearance was on KBS 2TV’s ‘High Five’.

Yoo Jae Suk asked, “After ‘High Five’ ended, do you remember who the PD and writer were?” Kang Dong Won remembered the dinner but couldn’t recall the PD and writer.

Yoo Jae Suk teased, “The writer was Lee Woo Jung, and the assistant director was Na Young Seok. Lee Woo Jung still brags about having noodles with you back then.” Kang Dong Won added, “Didn’t we eat sweet and sour pork?” jokingly.

When asked where people can see him now, Kang Dong Won casually replied, “You can see me at the theater.” When Jo Se Ho asked if he spends a lot of time at home, he explained, “I don’t stay home much these days. I travel around and look for good restaurants.”

Yoo Jae Suk commented, “An actor without haters. They say no one dislikes Kang Dong Won.” Kang Dong Won immediately responded, “There are, on the internet.” Jo Se Ho added with a chuckle, “Intermittently, one or two.”

Kang Dong Won then realistically shared his criteria for choosing scripts, “I look at completeness first, whether the storyline is well-structured, if the material is fresh, and if we can meet the break-even point.”

He added, “Since it’s not my money, I feel a burden. I always think I should at least give back even bank interest to those who invest in me and trust me.”

Yoo Jae Suk jokingly asked, “If we were to do ‘Yoo Quiz,’ would it be okay for tvN to give us even bank interest?” Jo Se Ho replied, “It wouldn’t be bad in terms of investment.” Kang Dong Won quipped, “‘Yoo Quiz’ would be a huge hit.”

Kang Dong Won also talked about the legendary scene from the 2004 movie ‘Romance of Their Own,’ where the leads shared an umbrella. “When we filmed that scene, we were in our twenties, three of us. Personally, it’s not my taste, so I felt embarrassed. I felt embarrassed even in the theater.” He added, “The movie was released, and the response was good. I told myself, ‘Don’t get too caught up in this. It’s just a moment.'”

When asked what he would do if it started raining, Kang Dong Won replied, “I wouldn’t jump into someone else’s umbrella. If someone doesn’t have an umbrella when it’s raining, I might give them mine.”
