K-pop appeared at the figure skating gala show at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics during the performance of Alysa Liu (17), an American female figure skater.
On Feb 20th, a figure skating gala show was held at Beijing Capital Indoor Stadium in China. Among the Korean athletes, Yoo Young (18) was invited, but she did not attend due to her schedule problems, and Yoo Young has returned to Korea on Feb 18th. The Gala Show is a kind of special performance and is a program performed by athletes invited by the organizers after the official matches.
Alysa Liu selected “LOCO” by Korean girl group ITZY on the same day. Liu, wearing an intense red-colored costume, passionately showed her performance of the song.
Apart from showing her grace on the ice rink, Liu also excitedly performed the point choreography of “LOCO” in the middle of her choreo.
In particular, she drew attention with the special appearance of a spin while sitting on the ice, which could not be seen in an official game.
Shortly after the performance, Liu posted on her Instagram, “MY FAVORITE GALA PROGRAM IVE EVER DONE AND I GOT TO SKATE TO ITZY?!!?!! this is actually insane. this is such a great way to end the olympics!! i couldn’t be happier ?”.
ITZY watched Liu’s performance from Korea and also thanked her by posting a photo of her performance on their team’s Instagram Story.
Liu shared this and replied, “Thank you so much.” Liu is known as an ITZY fan enough to follow ITZY’s official Instagram.
Meanwhile, Alysa Liu won the 2019 National Championships at the age of 13. In the women’s figure skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics, she ranked seventh with a total score of 208.95.
