K-pop Artists Join ‘League Of Legends’ World Championship Promotion, From (G)I-DLE To NewJeans

Interest in the famous Riot Games’s “League of Legends” is increasing with K-pop artists’ appearance

The League of Legends (LOL) World Championship was held in Korea for the first time in 2014. Four years later, Korea became the host of the event again and Rio Games launched a four-member virtual group K/DA with a K-pop skin.

(G)I-DLE members Miyeon and Soyeon drew particular attention as they were in charge of voicing K/Da members Ari and Akali. K/DA even performed the debut song “POP/STARS” at the opening ceremony of the 2018 World Championship and gained huge attention despite being a virtual group. The group later made a comeback in 2020 with singles “THE BADDEST” and “MORE”.

After releasing the first mini album “ALL OUT”, K/DA released the collaboration “I’LL SHOW YOU” with real singers, which are members Nayeon, Sana, Jihyo, and Chaeyong of TWICE.

After K/DA, Riot Games has collaborated with various K-pop artists. iKON’s Bobby sang the remix version of the theme song “RISE” for the 2018 World Championship and performed it live at the opening ceremony for the finale.

On October 4th, 2023, NewJeans sang “GODS” and became the first K-pop group to release a theme song for the World Championship. It is rumored that the boy group ATEEZ will also decorate the finale stage.
