K-netizens discuss SM staff’s criticism regarding EXO-CBX’s statement

An SM employee posted on the online community for employees “blind” regarding EXO-CBX’s lawsuit statement against SM.

Below is the post of the SM staff on “blind”.

The 2nd statement? They are making me feel so bad

Settlement data of a company are confidential since it involves not only contractors but also freelancers, so how can SM provide you with a copy of such content… To solve your concern, we created a dedicated system for artists’ internal financial settlement to allow you to access and review the information. This way, you can discuss matters related to the settlement and ask questions and don’t need to grab a random staff from the finance room to make them give you unnecessary details by asking about personal matters like whether or not they had a meal.

In addition, it’s funny to see you guys continuously frame the contract by maliciously emphasizing the fact that you “became victims” of re-contracting and casually agreeing to contract for up to 17 or 18 years. I guess it’s ridiculous to talk about a third party when talking about adults who can take responsibility for their own positions. We forcefully changed the settlement terms when you, as adults, agreed to the re-contracting, and now you’re saying you were too afraid to speak up because you were a rookie? I find all of this absurd.

It’s been quite a long time since you guys became top stars. If it’s about the first exclusive contract, I would understand your excuse of being a rookie. But even when you renewed the contract, were you still rookies? You were no longer a rookie who are scared of others at the company. You were already in a position of top stars when you made my own decisions on the re-contracting. So to speak like this now… it’s just…;;

SM’s perspective regarding the artists?ㅋㅋㅋ I was so angry. Then there are hundreds of your slaves here. I knew that the artists didn’t appreciate the company employees but this kind of wording is just astonishing. You are talking about a company that accepts a dad with two kids who weren’t financially viable. Since the company is trying to satisfy their precious artists with their complaints, many employees are getting angry while working hard. I can’t believe I’m hearing such words from EXO, one of the top artists in SM…

In the midst of this, fans read articles and only see the company as the villain…. The fact is, when your oppas say they want to leave under ‘circumstances’, it’s actually all about money. It’s not about some righteous cause or keeping ‘We are one’ loyalty or something. It’s just like a regular employee who wants to raise his salary and consider changing his job to get a higher salary. They’re not talking about trying to keep the team together…!!

And to say, “Even if we leave SM, we will propose a negotiation to continue EXO activities?”… This is a real blindfold. From the position of the artists who unreasonably demand contract termination, why would they make such a proposal? It makes no sense at all. I know the company, which must refuse contract termination, cannot naturally accept such a proposal. If the company agrees to let EXO go, they would say “Oh, we wanted to continue as a team but the evil company prevented it”, it’s clearly a shifting blame so that they won’t have to take responsibility for leaving due to money (It’s absurd to call it our legitimate right, the trademark right).

Some artists in the company proudly talk about how much they earn compared to artists from other companies. But I wish they would understand that when SM deducts expenses, it’s not deducting non-existent costs. Those expenses are incurred because we provide them with top-notch treatment. If they don’t like it, they can ask to have those expenses removed… (but if we actually remove them, they would get angry…)

Even when things cool down, we still strive to treat them as the absolute top artists, just like we did back then (as the company tells us to do)…

I got frustrated when I heard that one artist came complaining to the company, saying that they heard something strange somewhere and demanded that we reduce expenses and increase their personal salary based on the budget and settlement documents they brought. And then, if we actually reduce it and they end up looking shabby, they would complain, “Is this how you treat me now?” It’s frustrating… I hope everyone doesn’t get swayed by sweet words and instead objectively assesses their position and popularity in light of the situation. Even with the amount of salaries they receive, the employees work hard, thinking, “At least we’re working for our artist”, while shedding tears…

Please understand that the company is not a bad employer who always tries to take money from artists. We are collaborative partners, striving for mutual growth…. Just try starting your own small agency where you can earn a lot and experience hardships in business so you can come to your senses… No, just go and experience the ridiculous settlement methods you’re talking about now.

Here are some comments from theqoo netizens:

  • Wowㅋㅋㅋ I’m working at another entertainment agency and I can relate to themㅋㅋㅋ people in the industry would understand the situation as soon as I read their first statementㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
  • That’s why I think we shouldn’t believe the image created by celebrities
  • The staff worked hard
  • They are giving the staff a headache
  • That’s true
  • As expected, the three people are trying to leave because of money. Just like their ex-members.
  • I know this kind of like asking for a renegotiation of the salary during the contract period for an office worker. SM can just decide whether or not to listen to them… Let’s take this opportunity to see which side has more bargaining power (I’m not defending CBX, but this can happen in any industry)
