Actor Jung Woo-sung is making his first official public appearance in a year at the 34th Buil Film Awards, following controversy surrounding his private life.

On September 18, Jung Woo-sung attended the 34th Buil Film Awards handprinting ceremony at the Signiel Busan Grand Ballroom. The actor, who won Best Actor at last year’s Buil Film Awards for Seoul Spring, returned this year in his role as a previous award winner.

With a noticeably thinner frame and grown beard, Jung Woo-sung greeted the press: “It’s always a joy to take part in BIFF and the Buil Film Awards. It’s an honor to be back as a presenter, though I regret not having a film to showcase this year.”

When asked about his upcoming Disney+ original series Made in Korea, set for release in December, Jung Woo-sung kept details brief: “It’s difficult to explain in just a few words. I hope you’ll watch it when it comes out.”

The actor became embroiled in scandal last year when it was revealed that he had a child out of wedlock with model Moon Ga-bi, sparking widespread public scrutiny. Later, at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards, Jung Woo-sung directly addressed the issue, saying, “I will carry all the criticism. As a father, I will take full responsibility for my son until the end.”

Months later, in August 2025, Jung Woo-sung registered his marriage—not with Moon Ga-bi, but with a non-celebrity woman, officially becoming a married man.

Following the scandal, Jung Woo-sung withdrew from public activities, focusing solely on filming Made in Korea. His return at BIFF marks his first major public appearance since the controversy.

First established in 1958, the Buil Film Awards became Korea’s first film awards ceremony and played a pivotal role during the golden age of Korean cinema in the 1960s. Revived in 2008, it continues to uphold its prestige and tradition as the country’s longest-running film awards.
