Previously, videos showing Jessica walking through Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in China while surrounded by fans spread rapidly across online communities and social media platforms. During the footage, Jessica was seen suddenly covering her nose and appearing to gag while moving through the crowd, prompting widespread speculation.
The short clip quickly became controversial, with some netizens suggesting her reaction may have been caused by an unpleasant smell and arguing that it could have hurt fans’ feelings. Others, however, insisted it was unfair to draw conclusions from such a brief moment, leading to divided opinions online.

In response, Jessica directly addressed the situation during a live broadcast, firmly denying that her reaction had anything to do with a smell.
Jessica explained that she had been speaking to a fan at the airport who told her it had been their birthday the day before. She recalled asking the fan’s age and being surprised to learn they were only 21 years old.
“I was honestly shocked,” Jessica shared, explaining that she suddenly found herself thinking, ‘They’re so young — how do they even know me, and how did they come all the way here to see me?’

According to Jessica, her exaggerated facial expression at that moment led to the misunderstanding. She clarified that the viral “gagging” moment was simply her surprised reaction and not directed at fans or caused by anything unpleasant at the scene.
Meanwhile, Jessica debuted in 2007 as a member of the legendary girl group Girls’ Generation (SNSD) before departing the group in 2014. Since then, she has continued activities as a solo artist and entrepreneur.
