Jennie’s dress at Cannes was not new item but introduced 3 years ago, was she poorly treated by Chanel?

When BLACKPINK’s Jennie appeared as an actress at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, attention was focused on her fashion.

In particular, the dress she wore at the time was revealed to be a 2020 product, not a new item, leading to various speculations about its background.

According to industry sources on June 17th, Jennie wore a dress, as well as shoes and a hairband from Chanel, at “The Idol” premiere on May 22nd (local time).

On that day, Jennie received a great applause from the audience for her lovely aura in the white princess-like dress and the black hair ribbon.

This dress is from Chanel’s “2020 S/S Haute Couture Collection,” designed by creative director Virginie Viard. It had also garnered attention when model Kaia Gerber wore it on Chanel’s 2020 S/S runway. The price is undisclosed.

The hairband that added a touch of flair is Chanel’s “Pump Ribbon Hairband,” priced at around 1.1 million KRW. Jennie’s shoes are Chanel’s “Headband Flap”, priced at approximately 2.3 million KRW.

While Jennie’s fashion received attention and praise, her acting debut in “The Idol” has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the drama scored only 9% out of a perfect score of 100% for freshness. Major foreign media outlets commonly criticized “The Idol” for its explicit content, misogynistic depictions, and male-centric sexual fantasies.

The excessive exposure of lead actress Lily-Rose Depp received particular criticism. Variety criticized, “The first two episodes are filled with revenge pornographic photos with body fluids on Depp’s face, lewd acts involving ice, scammers with nightclubs, and wicked Hollywood flatterers.”

Rolling Stone also described it as a “lewd male fantasy,” while critic Robert Daniels called it a “disgusting and sexist drama.” The Los Angeles Times commented, “Depp is nearly naked or exposing her chest to the point of being topless. There are explicit sexual scenes that feel like rape fantasy pornography.”

“The Idol” portrays the love and passion of popular pop idols in the entertainment industry set in Los Angeles. The Weeknd was in charge of production and scriptwriting, and director Sam Levinson, who directed HBO’s hit drama “Euphoria,” participated as a co-producer. Jennie played Dyanne, Jocelyn’s backup dancer, who dreams of becoming a pop star in the drama. Jennie appeared for about 5 minutes in Episode 1 and 10 minutes in Episode 2.
