Japanese Animated Film “The Boy and the Heron” Heralds A Good Start With 200,000 Reserved Tickets

Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki’s comeback work “The Boy and the Heron” is a hot topic

Japanese animated master Hayao Miyazaki is returning with a new film called “The Boy and the Heron” 10 years after the release of the 2013 film “The Wind Rises”. The director, who announced his retirement from animation directing, decided to reverse his words and complete this new work by incorporating his autobiography stories.

Ever since the release of “The Boy and the Heron” special trailer, the film has aroused Ghibli fans’ curiosity about Mahito’s adventures into a mysterious world.

As Japanese animation is on the rise in theaters this year, “The Boy and the Heron” is also expected to perform well.

In particular, “The First Slam Dunk”, released in January this year, and Makoto Shinkai’s “Suzume”, released in March, succeeded in attracting 4.76 million viewers and 5.55 million viewers, respectively. While Korean films are performing sluggishly, Japanese animated series stood out with impressive results.

As of 2 p.m. on October 23rd, two days before the premiere day, “The Boy and the Heron” reportedly recorded 193,334 reserved tickets. With a ticket reservation ratio of 64.4%, director Hayao Miyazaki and Ghibli fans are raising hope for another big hit after a long time.

In addition, this is the first movie by Studio Ghibli that confirmed IMAX and Dolby Cinema screening, raising viewers’ anticipation for its quality.
