K-netizens Criticize NewJeans Hanni And Danielle For Not Speaking Korean Despite Being K-pop Idols

Netizens recently complained about NewJeans members speaking English too much

A netizen posted on Nate Pann about NewJeans members for not speaking Korean while they are promoting in Korea as K-pop idols, drawing keen attention.

The netizen said, “Hanni and Danielle, if you came to Korea to work and earn money in Korea, you must speak Korean. I’m not saying you’re ignoring Korea, but if you want to make money here, you should adapt to the culture in this country”, adding “Is that the way Min Hee-jin educated the members? This is Korea. Are you guys happy to see Japanese idols only speak Japanese in Korea? I’m sure you will also be mad about that”.

They continued, “Danielle’s mother is Korean and she was born in Paju. Hanni seems to speak Korean well on the news but she normally speaks English, right? I don’t know if Korean embers understand English well, but I think the two (Danielle and Hanni) don’t have any consideration for Korean members”.

In response, other netizens commented:

• What should I say? You guys say nothing about male idols using English on live broadcasts… Why do you suddenly raise the issue here?
• Stop saying nonsense. Many male idols also speak foreign languages on live broadcasts
• People are keeping an eye on everything about NewJeans, from their popularity to digital records and advertisements… I think this issue is going to have a reverse viral effect
• To be honest, I sympathize with you… Isn’t it obvious that Koreans are good at English? I know idols have to learn English. But while doing promotions as Korean idols, isn’t it disappointing that they only use English?
