“Doing a concert is also a way of mourning” Jang Jae In’s thoughts on the national mourning period following Itaewon tragedy

Singer Jang Jae In revealed his beliefs about doing a concert during Korea’s national mourning period.

On November 1st, Jang Jae In shared on his Instagram a post by singer-songwriter Summer of Thoughts (Park Jong Hyun).

Summer of Thoughts said, “The organizers of the two concerts we are going to do this week have politely asked whether we should hold the concerts or postpone them. After discussing our concerns, we decided to proceed as planned.”

He continued, “By the way, in the eyes of national institutions, art work is a synonym for entertainment. When I saw that art-related events were collectively canceled in the name of mourning, I felt the need to carry out the given concert even more as planned.”

In particular, he added, “For those who work in performing, not only not performing, but performing can also be a way of mourning. I rethink the repertoire I was going to do and try to tinker with it. I think again about what I want to tell the audience. That’s my choice. It is not necessary for everyone to agree, but I hope you do not judge it too harshly.”
