Jang Da-ah Gives 7 Points For Her Debut Role & Expresses Thoughts On ‘Jang Won-young’s Sister’ Label

Jang Da-ah was called by the title “Jang Won-young’s older sister” when she announced her debut as an actress under Starship Entertainment (King Kong by Starship), the same company as her sister. However, she proudly won the role of Baek Ha-rin in her debut drama “Pyramid Game” through the audition.  

Later, Jang Da-ah left a strong impression on viewers and received favorable reviews for her perfect acting performance as a villain in “Pyramid Game”. In particular, she challenged intense acting, such as bullying and smoking, and created a plot twist for the drama with her two-faced character.

In a recent interview, when asked to score her bold acting in her debut project “Pyramid Game”, Jang Da-ah shared, “There are still many shortcomings in my acting. Since I’m still in the beginning stage, I still have to improve many things”, adding “I don’t set the limits to what I can do. I’m trying to go as far as I can and I’m not afraid of trying. That’s why I was able to act boldly. I want to give 7 points to encourage myself because I tried my best”.

Regarding her smoking acting, the actress said, “I was very careful when doing smoking scenes because I was afraid that it would look fake and awkward. I thought I should make it look as natural as possible so that viewers could immerse themselves in the drama. Therefore, I took reference from many smoking scenes in other dramas and movies”. She added, “Ha-rin uses a Zippo lighter and I had never touched it before. So I asked to bring the lighter props home and practice holding it in my hand when resting at home. I tried to hold it as if I was playing with it with many movements.”

In response to the question, saying “There must have been many prejudices as you first gained attention as ‘Jang Won-young’s sister’, not ‘actress Jang Da-ah’, and worked under the same agency as your sister. Was the huge attention too burdensome?”, Jang Da-ah said, “I only thought of acting when doing my job. I didn’t want to be distracted and waste my energy on such things. I focused solely on acting and how to express Baek Ha-rin”.

The interviewer brought up Jang Da-ah’s previous remark about not wanting to be known as “Jang Won-young’s sister” and asked if she wanted to remove the label. Jang Da-ah replied, “It’s not like I had to take the label off because I didn’t mean to have it. It naturally happened, but it’s not my concern. I’m just focusing on doing my job and showcasing my acting. I’ve always kept things low-key. I knew it would inevitably become known one day, and from my perspective, I tried to delay it as much as possible. It’s not something I can hide just because I want to. It was out of my control so I accepted it naturally. However, I believed that the information about my acting debut was disclosed a little later than expected”.
