Jamboree concert’s final song “Balloon” is DBSK’s? Original artist complains “I should receive an apology”

The original singer expressed displeasure as the Jamboree concert introduced “Balloon” as a song by DBSK.

The Jamboree’s K-pop Super Live concert was held at the World Cup Stadium in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on the evening of August 11th. The performer lineup includes a total of 19 singers, such as NewJeans, IVE, NCT DREAM, ITZY, MAMAMOO, The Boyz, etc. Before the concert ended, all the singers gathered on the stage to sing the song “Balloon” together.

Jamboree

“Balloon” is a song released by the band Five Fingers (다섯손가락) in 1986 and remade by DBSK in 2006.

However, KBS noted “Balloon” as an original song by DBSK in the subtitle for its Jamboree concert live broadcast.

Lee Do Heon, who was in charge of vocal and guitar in Five Fingers, posted on his Facebook account, saying “The song ‘Balloon’ played at the end of the Jamboree Super concert. Did you get permission from the original singer? You didn’t ask for our permission but introduced it as DBSK’s? I think I should receive an apology, right? The original singer is Five Fingers”.

Jamboree

In fact, Lee Do Heon is the original vocalist and lyricist of “Balloon”. KBS aired the rerun of the Jamboree concert on August 12th and still noted DBSK as the original singer of “Balloon” without correcting the credit.

Earlier, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized, “Kakao Friends character merchandise and BTS photocards were voluntarily prepared by Kakao and HYBE as gifts for the scouts.” These gifts were worth 1 billion and 800 million won respectively.

In the meantime, Lee Doo Heon wrote at the end of his post, saying “I do not volunteer”.

In this regard, netizens poured criticism against Jamboree concert organizer, saying, “Who is responsible for the Jamboree Concert?”, “This shows the peak of K-pop’s incompetence”, “How could they not even ask for permission from the original artist?”, etc.
