IVE’s official standing formation is unlike any other girl groups (ft. netizens’ mixed reactions)
What do you think about IVE’s standing formation?
Starship’s rookie girl group IVE had a successful debut with ELEVEN. Aside from bagging many music show wins, IVE also came under several controversies. Recently, when looking back at IVE’s group photos throughout their first promotion, netizens have mixed reactions.
Specifically, the two tallest members of IVE, Jang Wonyoung and Ahn Yujin, get to stand in the middle of the lineup. Other members, who are shorter, stand at the sides. Wonyoung and Yujin, who were already the most popular pre-debut thanks to IZ*ONE, look even more outstanding in the current lineup of IVE with their impressive heights.
Starship probably let Wonyoung and Yujin stand in the center because they have the highest recognition among IVE members. However, many fans can’t help but be unhappy with this formation:
- Such a weird formation. Tall members in the middle while short members at the side.
- Wonyoung is the center so it makes sense she stands in the middle but putting Yujin in the center too makes both of them stand out too much, the other 4 can’t be noticed.
- I feel bad for 4 other members. Starship keeps turning them into backup dancers.
- Why not let Wonyoung and Yujin stand at the two sides? Wouldn’t the lineup look more balanced that way?
Compared to other girl groups, the formations of TWICE or BLACKPINK look much more even than IVE. Tall members do not stand in the center. That way, the spotlight is divided equally for every member. Standing formation is also flexible and not fixed like the case of IVE.
