IVE’s MMA VCR is accused of plagiarizing Red Velvet’s tribute MV to the Ferry Sewol tragedy

The public is even more uncomfortable as the mentioned Red Velvel’s MV is widely known as a tribute to the Ferry Sewol tragedy.

On Nov 26th, IVE proved their potential of a popular girl group by sweeping the Rookie of the Year award, the Song of the Year award, TOP10 and the Best Female Group award at the 2022 Melon Music Awards.

This particular video, which features the IVE members, was filmed like a music video. However, netizens are suspecting that there is plagiarism involved, saying it is very similar to the music video of “One Of These Nights” released by the girl group Red Velvet in 2016.

What is more problematic is that Red Velvet’s “One Of These Nights” is presumed to be a memorial song for the Ferry Sewol tragedy. The “One Of These Nights” music video features many scenes that are interpreted as a memorial to Ferry Sewol, and many think it is inappropriate that these scenes were taken and applied to IVE’s exciting song.

In the video shown by IVE, when Jang Won Young went under a table decorated with flowers, she sees the members sitting in a circle welcoming her. The six members, sitting together, then looked at the sky with candles lit in the middle. A sentence of “So shall we hold an unforgettable festival tonight?” was also added to the scene.

The same scene was also found in Red Velvet’s “One Of These Nights” music video.

In the “One Of These Nights” music video, when Red Velvet’s Wendy went under the table, she saw the other members of Red Velvet gathered in a circle with reverent expressions. They also looked at the sky with candles lit in the middle.

After IVE’s video was broadcasted, domestic and foreign fans are protesting with great anger, saying, “They shamelessly copied the MV,” “The videos look so alike that there’s no room for excuses,” and “It makes no sense that they decided to copy a video that was meant to be a tribute to the Ferry Sewol tragedy.”

On the other hand, some responded by saying, “The concepts are similar, but there seems to be no malicious intention,” and “IVE may have not known.”
