Actor Kang Dong-won praised IU (Lee Ji-eun), whom he worked with for the first time in “Broker” (directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda).
Kang Dong-won recently conducted an interview with Wikitree at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul to share various stories about the movie “Broker”.
“Broker” revolves around characters associated with baby boxes, which allow infants to be dropped off anonymously to be cared for by others. Kang Dong-won played Dong-soo and worked with Song Kang-ho (as Sang-hyeon), IU (as So-young), Bae Doo-na (as Soo-jin) and Lee Joo-young (as Detective Lee).
On this day, when asked what the atmosphere on set was like, Kang Dong-won replied, “It was fun. As we stayed there together, we were able to concentrate more. Also, since we were the only ones filming on location, those things were great.”
Dong-soo (played by Kang Dong-won) gradually opens his heart to So-young and soon reaches out to become a new family. After living a dull life, he meets So-young and regains vitality.
Kang Dong-won said, “Dong-soo is a friend who works as a broker with the clear purpose ‘Babies should live at home’. Dong-soo grew up in a nursery, so he had a resentment towards his mother. However, he was healed after meeting So-young. From the thought ‘Why did my mom abandon me?’, he opened his mind ‘My mom might have had her own reason’.”
Was Dong-soo’s sincerity love when he told So-young that he would become her son’s father? Kang Dong-won talked about Dong-soo’s complex feelings.
Kang Dong-won confessed, “It’s not love. I think he’ll part with her when he starts to like her. So-young loves Woo-sung (So-young’s baby) and it’d be hard to raise him alone. It was so much fun while traveling, so Dong-soo thought, ‘Can’t we live together like this?’ Whether it’s love or not, since he’s never had a family of his own, maybe it’s the feeling of wanting to start a family.”
As for IU, whom he worked with, he praised, “As you all know, actress Lee Ji-eun is very good at acting. I think her future will be bright. She can play a variety of characters. She’ll do well in the future.”
