IU and ‘Dark IU’ BIBI: Most Searched on Melon in the First Half of the Year

Most searched song by users was BIBI's "BIBI Vengeance," and the most searched artist was IU.

Melon, a domestic music platform, announced on the 11th that according to its analysis of data from the first half of this year, the most searched song by users was BIBI’s “BIBI Vengeance,” and the most searched artist was IU.

During the same period, a total of 620,000 artists’ 5.84 million songs were played on Melon. Assuming an average runtime of 3 minutes per song, music was played for a total of 1.07 billion hours.

The highest streaming day on Melon was April 5, when cherry blossoms were in full bloom nationwide. On this day alone, there were a whopping 132.42 million streams. The next highest streaming day was May 3, marking the start of the Golden Week holiday, with 131.51 million streams recorded.

In the ‘Melon’s Hall of Fame’ for the Million Album category, which tracks streaming during the first 24 hours of release, the achievements of the virtual idol PLAVE stood out. PLAVE’s second mini-album ‘Asterum: 134-1’ recorded the highest number of streams among Million Albums in the first half of the year. The title track ‘Wait for Love’ reached 104 million streams.

IU, the most searched artist in the first half of this year, topped the monthly chart in February with the pre-release track “Love Wins All” from her sixth mini-album ‘The Winning.’ ‘The Winning’ is the first album IU released in her 30s. BIBI, often referred to as “Dark IU,” gained long-term attention with her February release “BIBI Vengeance,” which topped the monthly chart in March.

In May, which saw a series of comebacks from popular artists, Zico’s “Spot!” in collaboration with BLACKPINK member Jennie topped the monthly chart. In June, the double title track “Supernova” from aespa’s first full-length album topped the monthly chart for the last month of the first half of the year.
