“Island” proves the power of K-Dramas by entering Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 in 22 countries for the first time

Right after its release, “Island” became the first K-content to enter Top 10 on Amazon Prime Video, certifying K-Dramas’ popularity overseas.

According to global OTT and VOD ranking website FlixPatrol on January 1st, TVing’s original series “Island”, which was released on December 30th, rose to No.10 on Amazon Prime TOP TV Shows category within two days.

“Island” entered Top 10 in 22 countries, such as Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. In particular, it ranked 1st in five countries, 2nd in six countries, and 5th in Morocco and Senegal.

Amazon Prime Video is a large OTT that runs streaming services around the world and is quite successful with SF heroes. “Island” was also selected as a Korean hero drama.

The record of “Island” was compiled from about 100 countries where Amazon Prime Video services, excluding Korea, where it is exclusively released through TVing. In other words, this directly shows the global interest in “Island”.

Set on the beautiful Jeju Island, “Island” is a fantasy and action hero drama about people digging into hidden secrets and fighting against evil. It stars trustworthy actor Kim Nam Gil as the main character Ban, Lee Da Hee as chaebol heiress Won Mi Ho, and Cha Eun Woo as young priest Yo Han.

Despite being a webtoon-based drama, “Island” is receiving favorable reviews for its new story after airing two episodes. Episodes 3 and 4 will be released on TVing at 12 p.m. on January 6th.
