Is The Weeknd’s song “K-Pop” about BLACKPINK Jennie?

Some netizens believe The Weeknd’s new song hints at a relationship with BLACKPINK Jennie.

Recently, The Weeknd released a song called “K-POP” featuring Travis Scott and Bad Bunny. The song became a buzz in Korea for directly mentioning one of Korea’s central industries; yet, the lyrics did not seem to refer to the same thing as the title. Some netizens believe the song hints at his relationship with BLACKPINK Jennie

In the lyrics, there are keywords such as “Korean,” “Cannes,” and especially the title “K-POP,” all of which are related to BLACKPINK Jennie. Jennie recently joined the promotion for “The Idol” at the “Cannes International Film Festival” in May. She also had a close relationship with The Weeknd. Because of the explicit image suggestive lines, the song can seriously damage Jennie’s reputation.

In response, BLINKs gave out evidence to prove that Jennie had nothing to do with the song. Starting with the title, they argue that “K-POP” does not refer to Korea’s music industry but to ketamine lollipop, which directly ties to the album’s cover image. Netizens also cited Genius’ explanation about K-POP as a code word for such a drug.

BLINKs continue debunking the rumors by comparing the timeline of Jennie’s actual activities and the one mentioned in the song’s lyrics. While the song mentioned “Cannes’ and “Saint Tropez,” Jennie’s schedule only contained Cannes’ attendance from May 22 to 26; she never appeared at Saint Tropez.

In comparison, a close friend of Jennie and The Weeknd’s girlfriend, Simi Khadra, fits more neatly into the lyrics. She traveled with the “Blinding Light” singer in the South of France (including Saint Tropez) on May 19. Later. She went out with The Weeknd from 25 to 27 of May. During this time, Jennie was absent because she left for Thailand for the “BORN PINK” concert on May 26.

Furthermore, BLINKs argue that “Lil Yachty” actually referred to an American rapper who is a friend of The Weeknd.

While Travis Scott announced the song on May 29, “K-POP” actually took him and other artists a month to work on. Moreover, because the mentioned timeline and Jennie’s actual schedule do not match, fans believe Jennie is being targeted by malicious rumors, especially when she is heavily criticized after “The Idol” wrapped up.
