ILLIT Under Fire for Media Play using NewJeans’ Name

Recently, a topic titled “ILLIT’s media play method using NewJeans is disgusting” was published on the Korean forum Pann Nate, garnering over 77,000 views and almost 100 comments. 

According to the topic, NewJeans’ name was taken advantage of in order to “media play” for ILLIT, as proven via article titles like “Hot debut of NewJeans’ “little sister” – ILLIT’s ‘Magnetic’”.

Additionally, it was mentioned that ILLIT boasts concepts extremely similar to NewJeans, and the group’s choreography has been said to resemble NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM. Under videos of ILLIT, many netizens were reminded of NewJeans, regardless of countries, the topic also claimed.

The author of the topic also added fuel to the fire by saying, “While they are both under HYBE, ILLIT and NewJeans are from different subsidiaries. The average age of ILLIT is higher, yet they are media-playing as NewJeans’ little sister. It is funny how this group is not popular for skills and unique concepts, but for copying.”
