The story of Kim Kyu Sang, the CEO of Woo!ah!’s agency is drawing attention from netizens.
On July 6th, a post titled “CEO of the agency that created a girl group by emptying all the wealth he accumulated over 25 years” was uploaded on social media. The post contained an interview of CEO Kim Kyu Sang, who appeared on YouTube’s ‘Guracheol’ last year.
CEO Kim Kyu Sang is a former dancer who created choreography for artists such as Lee Hyori, Rain, Sistar, HyunA, 4Minute, Apink, and Brave Girls. He was the first choreographer to create a girl group.
Kim Kyu Sang said, “I earned about 300 million won ($254,000) annually during my career as a choreographer, but I emptied all the funds invested in creating Woo!ah! and even the wealth accumulated over 25 years,” and revealed, “It’s almost the price of one Gangnam apartment. Now I take the subway to get around.“
Girl group Woo!ah! created by CEO Kim Kyu Sang, debuted with six members, Nana, Wooyeon, Sora, Lucy, Minseo, and Songyee, on May 13, 2020. Songyee withdrew from the group due to personal reasons after only three months since debut, and the group is currently active with five members.
CEO Kim Kyu Sang said to Kim Gura, “Woo!ah! is a group specialized in dance. I cast Nana in the first dance competition. Wooyeon was originally a trainee at SM, and it took me 10 months to convince her. Lucy was a trainee at JYP, and I persuaded her parents to bring her. Minseo is Lucy’s friend, so Lucy brought her. Sora is Japanese and is from Fukuoka. Since Sora’s mother is Korean, I could scout her.“
Woo!ah! has released a total of four single albums and one mini-album since their debut until November 16 of last year. The leader, Nana, is also the fixed MC for MBC M’s music program Show Champion, along with Moon Sua from Billlie.
Furthermore, Nana and Wooyeon are currently participating as contestants in Mnet’s survival show ‘Queendom Puzzle’, hosted by Taeyeon. ‘Queendom Puzzle’ is a program that competes among existing girl group members to create a new project girl group.
