Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo surpassed, the world’s most loved Korean actor is..?

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announces the results of their 2023 survey on the world’s most loved Korean actors.

On March 10th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea International Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency, released the results of their “2023 Overseas Korean Wave Survey (as of 2022)”, which revealed the ranking of the world’s most loved Korean actor and singers. The survey was conducted among 25,000 people in 26 countries.

According to the survey, 9.1% of survey participants chose Lee Min Ho as their current favorite Korean actor. Lee Min Ho, who has topped this ranking for 5 consecutive years since 2018, rose to the ranks of top stars after playing the male lead of KBS drama “Boys Over Flowers”. Since then, he has established himself as a Hallyu star, receiving great love both in and outside of Korea, as well as earn huge successes through various acting projects, such as “City Hunter”, “The Heirs”, “Legend of the Blue Sea”, and “The King: Eternal Monarch”.

Lee Min Ho’s global popularity can also be confirmed through social media, with over 32.29 million Instagram followers, the most among Korean male actors. If subscribers and followers on YouTube and Facebook are added, Lee Min Ho’s fans would surpass 99 million, far exceeding the population of Korea.

Following Lee Min Ho in the World’s Most Loved Korean Actors ranking are Gong Yoo (2.7%), Hyun Bin (2.4%), Song Hye Kyo (2.0%), and Lee Jong Suk (1.5%), in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th places, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the singers category, BTS took first place with 31.3%, maintaining their world star title. BLACKPINK placed 2nd with 10.8%, followed by PSY (2.6%), TWICE (1.8%), and IU (1.7%), in sequential order.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also announced the results of a survey on the contents most preferred by Hallyu consumers. According to the survey results, the respective 1st and 2nd place belongs to “Squid Game” and “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” in the drama category, “Parasite” and “Train to Busan” in the movies category, and “PUBG” and “Ragnarok Online” in the game category.
