HYBE Released Year-End Notice Regarding Lawsuits Against Violations Of Artists’ Human Rights

Six labels under HYBE altogether posted the notice regarding their legal responses to cases of infringement of artists’ human rights on Weverse and the SNS channel of all artists, including Baekho, Hwang Min-hyun, BTS, SEVENTEEN, fromis_9, TXT, Enhypen, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, and &Team.

Malicious posts, threats against artists’ safety and invasion of privacy, artists’ impersonations, leaks of personal information and defamation comments on live broadcasts were pointed out as acts of infringement on human rights and interests. The notice also includes examples of illegal acts, the progress of artists’ complaints, and some punishment results.

According to Big Hit Music, criminal punishments were already imposed on stalkers who followed BTS members to private schedules and their homes. In addition, they also filed additional complaints for BTS’s impersonators and those who leaked personal information and these cases are about to be sentenced by the court.

Source Music reportedly sued a number of people who spread false information and defamation posts on SNS, including malicious rumors about LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chae-won. The label also collected and sued the act of mass-producing rumors in group chat rooms as well as false information and sexual harassment posts in online communities.

ADOR has been taking legal action against people who mocked artists’ nationalities, made offensive posts, edited obscene photos and insulted their artists on live broadcasts. They added, “Among the people who were sued, one requested an agreement. However, we already clarified that we wanted them to be punished and be held legally responsible until the end.”

Since 2018, HYBE’s legal team has been taking action against the mentioned crimes on a regular basis by collecting reports from fans and their self-monitoring system.

A HYBE official emphasized, “Artists are public figures so it is obvious that they are exposed to criticism. However, before that, they must be respected and protected as ordinary people. We have taken strict legal actions to eradicate malicious and repetitive violations of human rights that have traumatized our artists”, adding “In order for K-pop to expand, such problematic acts and malicious comments should disappear.”.
