HYBE & BTS’s Suga Accused of Lying to Make Drunk-driving Issue Less Serious

Korean netizens are accusing HYBE and BTS’s Suga of lying about a detail to lighten the latter’s drunk-driving controversy.

On August 7, a topic titled “Both HYBE and BTS’s Suga used the term ‘electric kickboard’ in their statement and apology” was published on the Korean forum ‘theqoo’, attracting over 30,000 views and 200 comments within less than 2 hours.

The aforementioned topic pointed out that despite the officer who caught Suga mentioning an “electric scooter” model with a saddle, HYBE & Suga insisted that the male idol used an “electric kickboard” to make the drunk-driving issue seem less serious.

As a result, Korean netizens are calling out HYBE & Suga for lying and trying to cover up the issue. They also mocked Suga’s apology, where the male idol stated that he did not realize that using an electric kickboard while under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • What a sight to see an idol covering up an incident…
  • It’s fucking ridiculous to think that he rode an electric scooter while drunk enough to get his license revoked. It’s just a godsend that he didn’t hit anyone.
  • I guess they must have searched for a way out somehow with less damage and put out a statement about electric kickboard…
  • These days, I see a lot of delivery people riding electric scooters. They are big and go really fast, and they are much more threatening than electric kickboards.
  • They are trying to make the issue seem less serious and cover it up, but he said he didn’t know??
  • If it has a saddle, it’s a scooter. I hate seeing them trying to make the issue smaller by calling it a kickboard.
  • It’s so disgusting that they are trying to reduce it to a small incident
