Veteran Chinese actor Hu Ge, 43, has revealed personal insights into his family life and emotional struggles, admitting he feels like a “failure” when it comes to balancing his roles as an actor, husband, and father.

In a recent interview promoting his latest film Three Drops of Blood, Hu Ge publicly confirmed for the first time that he is now the father of two children — a daughter and a recently born son. However, the celebrated actor also confessed to feelings of guilt and inadequacy, stating, “I’m a failure. I haven’t done well in balancing work and family.”

Hu Ge shared that the demands of his filming schedule often keep him away from home, making him feel absent during his children’s formative years. “I’m away filming most of the time and miss out on their growth,” he said.

In a particularly touching anecdote, Hu Ge recalled a moment when he brought his daughter to a film set because he couldn’t bear to be separated. Upon reflection, he admitted the decision was careless and he now deeply regrets it.

The actor also confessed to treating his children differently, being stricter with his son and more lenient with his daughter. “I’m more patient and forgiving with my daughter, but I lack that patience when it comes to my son,” he admitted.

During the interview, Hu Ge acknowledged the fast-paced rise of younger talents in the entertainment industry and expressed a sense of fading relevance. Now a father of two, he’s rethinking his career priorities and considering taking a step back from work to focus on his family.

Hu Ge, born in 1982, is considered an A-list actor in China. He rose to fame with iconic dramas such as Chinese Paladin, Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky, The Myth, The Legend of the Condor Heroes (2008), Nirvana in Fire, and The Disguiser. He is also a familiar face to international fans.

In early 2023, Hu Ge surprised fans by announcing his marriage and the birth of his first child, a daughter. His wife, previously his assistant and spokesperson, has largely stayed out of the spotlight. Prior to settling down, Hu Ge had a series of high-profile relationships with fellow actresses such as Xue Jianing, Jiang Shuying, and heiress Lin Xiao, though none lasted.

Despite his candid admission of flaws and emotional struggles, Hu Ge’s reflections show a mature side of the actor, one who is grappling with life’s evolving priorities. At this new stage in life, he appears to be seeking more authenticity and connection over fame and career accolades.
