JTBC’s Fri-Sat drama “Reborn Rich”, which is a hot topic, has only two episodes left until it ends.
“Reborn Rich” starts when ordinary office worker Yoon Hyun Woo (Song Joong Ki), who was loyal to Sunyang Group, was murdered by someone from Sunyang while on his business trip to transfer a slush fund. Then, he traveled 30 years ago back in time and was reborn into the body of Sunyang’s youngest son Jin Do Joon.
Although the setting is a little bit absurd, the developments of the drama are gaining enthusiastic support from young people as well as middle-aged viewers because they recall the growth of modern history by portraying Korea’s conglomerates, such as Samsung, Hyundai, etc., through various events in the 6th Industrial Revolution, the IMF, etc.
Thanks to the memories of future events in his first life, Jin Do Joon gets land in Bundang before it is developed from his grandfather, the Chairman Jin Yang Chul of Sunyang Group, buys shares of Microsoft and Amazon, as well as predicts the success of the movie “Titanic”. These contents are said to have accurately scratched the itch of those in their 40s and 50s and portrayed the widened gap between the rich and the poor due to real estate and coin investments.
On top of that, the synergy between Song Joong Ki’s serious performance as the lead actor, and Lee Sung Min’s passionate acting as Sunyang’s Chairman Jin Yang Chul raised the viewers’ immersion in the drama.
The character Jin Do Joon drew admiration with the way he calmly and firmly pointed out correct investment destinations. The scenes where he predicted the September 11 crisis, disposed of all U.S. stocks, and handed over the credit card company to his opponent Jin Dong Ki (Jo Han Chul) before the credit card crisis doubled viewers’ delight.
Lee Sung Min caught the eyes of the audience with his detailed performance reminiscent of a real chaebol. Through famous lines, such as “I am Sunyang”, “I’m the engine of Sunyang”, etc., he thrilled everyone in front of the small screen.
In fact, real chaebols are also watching the drama. Choi Tae Won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and SK Group, mentioned “Reborn Rich” when answering reporters’ questions at a year-end conference held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. When asked what he wants to do if he can go back 30 years ago and be reborn like that in the drama, he said, “I want to start a business.”
The hottest topic is now the direction of the ending of “Reborn Rich”, which has only two episodes left. In the original web novel by San Gyung, Jin Do Joon travels to Moldo, where Yoon Hyun Woo died, after becoming the Chairman of Sunyang. Here, Jin Do Joon holds a funeral for Yoon Hyun Woo and vows to live as Jin Do Joon.
On the other hand, some viewers are guessing that the drama will be wrapped up in a different way because the drama has been developed in a somewhat different direction from the beginning. Some are cautiously predicting that the whole story is “just a dream”.
The production team asked viewers to keep an eye on the relationship between prosecutor Seo Min Young (Shin Hyun Been), who is intensively investigating the source of the slush fund, Sunyang Micro, and Sunyang Family. They said, “Amid the growing desire of Jin Do Joon, Sunyang Micro, the link between the past life and the present life, as well as the relationship between Jin Do Joon and Seo Min Young, who is now meeting as suspect and prosecutor, will be a clue to the ending.”
