The evil spirit possessed by Kim Tae Ri in the drama is presumed to be the traditional Korean ghost “Taejagwi (Saetani)”.

“Taejagwi” refers to a baby ghost who died of hunger after being abandoned by their parents or a shaman carrying such a ghost. It is also called “Taeju”, “Myeongdo” or “Saetani”.

The shaman who received the spirit of “Taejagwi” makes a child’s voice, facial expressions and gestures when fortune-telling. In addition, according to “Seonghosaseol” written by Yi Ik, a Silhak scholar (scholar who studied practical matters) in the Joseon Dynasty, some evil shamans stole other people’s children, put food in front of the children when they cried and fainted because of hunger, then deliberately killed them the moment they reached out to make “Taejagwi”. This job is called “Yeommae”.

Unlike general “Taejagwi”, “Taejagwi” born through “Yeommae” are “evil spirits” specialized in harming people. While listening to people’s desires, they develop negative emotions and eventually take over the bodies of the people they are in.
