On May 20, 2021, the Chinese media reported that Cai Xu Kun met a girl (called C) at a karaoke bar in Chaoyang District, Beijing through a mutual friend. They slept together that night and the girl got pregnant. When she called to tell Cai Xu Kun the news, he told her to get an abortion. On May 7, 2021, C went to the hospital alone to get the abortion.
When Cai Xu Kun’s mother heard the news, she thought her son was being framed, so she hired a private detective to investigate and secretly installed a pinhole camera in the girl’s door to monitor her everyday activities. The camera footage revealed C going home with an unidentified man at 3 in the morning. The detective found out it was only C’s best friend.
Amidst public confusion, a bogger released a photo of C holding an abortion paper, along with a recording of Cai Xu Kun’s mother paying her 500,000 CNY (approx. 70,000 USD) for the abortion. According to the singer-songwriter’s schedule, he flew Guangzhou from to Beijing on May 16, 2021, and left Beijing for Shanghai on May 24, 8 days later. This matched the detail that he spent a night in Beijing on May 20.
The Chinese media contacted Cai Xu Kun but could not reach him. The controversy is currently the talk of the town on Weibo.
