Controversy over drug use among celebrities has become a hot issue again. As actor Lee Sang-bo was recently involved in drug allegations, other stars’ drug use controversies in the past are being brought up one after another. Drugs cannot be justified for any reason. Therefore, fans are critcizing stars who decided to return to the entertainment industry too quickly after their drug scandals. In fact, the public never welcomes stars who take the illegal drug issue lightly. 

▲ Park Yoo-chun – A significant downfall from a top Hallyu star to a drug criminal

Park Yoo-chun, a former member of TVXQ and JYJ, was enjoying his heyday as a Hallyu star then fell into the abyss in an instant after being revealed to have administered drugs. Park Yoo-chun was accused of taking drugs together with his ex-girlfriend Hwang Ha-na, the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products founder, when the police arrested Hwang Ha-na on drug charges. On April 10th, 2019, Park Yoo-chun held a press conference and strongly denied the charges of taking drugs, however, his claims were eventually revealed to be false and Park Yoo-chun was also arrested. After being sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence, the singer stopped all broadcasting activities. However, after spending only a short period of time for self-reflection, he has continued to be active by holding fanmeetings in Korea and overseas. Therefore, fans are expressing concerns rather than showing expectations for his appearance.

▲ BIG BANG T.O.P – Sentenced to prison for inhaling cannabis

BIG BANG member T.O.P was investigated on charges of inhaling marijuana around June 2017. He stubbornly denied the charges of habitual inhalation of marijuana but admitted to taking cannabis twice. Therefore, the court sentenced T.O.P to 10 months in prison with a two-year probation. From then on, BIG BANG has been the talk of the town several times due to continuous controversies, such as G-Dragon’s cannabis controversy, Seungri’s Burning Sun scandal, and Daesung’s traffic accident. BIG BANG as a group of four members, except Seungri, resumed their activities in April by releasing a new song.

▲ Ex-BTOB Jung Il-hoon

BTOB’s former member Jung Il-hoon was arrested by the police in December 2020 on charges of purchasing cannabis 161 times and habitually inhaling it. It was revealed that Jung Il-hoon spent more than 100 million won on cannabis and cleverly tried to avoid police investigations in some ways. Jung Il-hoon was later sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial and was arrested in court. After receiving the sentence of two-year imprisonment with a three-year suspended punishment, Jung Il-hoon was released about six months after his arrest. It is known that Jung Il-hoon is currently not engaging in any special activities.
