“Hangout with Yoo” to be renovated, marking 3rd anniversary and starting new season after WSG Wannabe

Entertainment program “Hangout with Yoo” will be transformed into a new season to celebrate the show’s 3rd anniversary. 

On July 27th, the production team behind MBC variety show “Hangout with Yoo” announced plans for a new season to mark the 3rd anniversary of this entertainment program. 

“Hangout with Yoo”, which starred the “national MC” and Running Man member Yoo Jae Suk, started airing back in 2019. The show, which initially attempted to find out what Yoo Jae Suk would be doing during his days off, later showcases the MC alongside 4 other fixed cast members Jeong Jun Ha, Haha, Shin Bong Sun, and Lee Mi Joo, who take on various projects together and provides immense laughter and emotions to viewers on weekend evenings. 

As of the moment, “Hangout with Yoo” has been running for 3 years, receiving steady love, and its recent segment “WSG Wannabe” is highly popular. According to Nielsen Korea, the show also recorded the highest viewership ratings among Saturday variety shows, even ranking first in TV topic for 2 weeks in a row and first in the non-drama category for 10 weeks in a row. In June, it topped the chart of Koreans’ most favorite TV programs, as surveyed by Gallup Korea, regaining its throne after 8 months. 

As “Hangout with Yoo” reached its 3rd year, let’s take a rewind and look at the footsteps of this popular program, season by season. 

# Season 1. Expansion of the “YOO-Niverse” that started with Yoo Jae Suk

“Hangout with Yoo” led the entertainment trend by expanding the “YOO-Niverse”, which centers on Yoo Jae Suk. In the show, Yoo Jae Suk transforms into numerous sub-characters that eventually caused a “sub-character syndrome”. In particular, there were the drum prodigy Yoo-go Starr in “Yoo-plash”, trot star Yoo San Seul in “Bbong For Yoo”, ramyeon restaurant worker YooRaSek in “Life Ramyeon”, and Yoo Sam in “Indoor Concert” – a last-minute concert project that became a new link between people in the Corona era, as well as numerous others. Whatever the concept, “Hangout with Yoo” never fail to create unpredictable laughter and emotion.  

In addition, “Hangout with Yoo” also stemmed projects and contents that spurn outside of the show, including the mixed “Kpop group” SSAK3, which include Yoo Jae Suk alongside super stars Lee Hyori and Rain; the 4-member girl group Refund Sisters, the recent male vocal project group MSG Wannabe, and various other look for promising talents in the music industry, give them new wings, and imbue new ideas. Therefore, “Hangout with Yoo” is also an opportunity to discover and rediscover potential entertainers.  

# Season 2. The five-member system with Yoo Jae-suk, Jeong Jun-ha, Haha, Shin Bong-sun, Lee Mi-joo… Membership expansion

“Hangout with Yoo” Yoo Jae-suk was joined by Jeong Jun-ha, Haha, Shin Bong-sun and Lee Mi-joo to make a new change. JMT, which inherited the “Muhan Company” worldview, featured not only general manager Yoo Jae-suk but also section chief Jeong Jun-ha, employee Haha and executive director Shin Mi-na (Shin Bong-sun). They interviewed job applicant Lee Mi-joo, showing their chemistry. The Acorn Festival was successfully held with the members.

WSG Wannabe is the first large-scale project in 2022 carried out by the five-member system. The members became representatives of three agencies Antenna, SiSo, QuanMujin and produced three groups with each agency’s color. People with amazing skills such as GayaG (Lee Bo-ram, Soyeon, HYNN (Park Hye-won), Jung Ji-so), 4FIRE (Navi, SOLE, Eom Ji-yoon, Kwon Jin-ah) and OaSiSo (Yoon Eun-hye, Kota, Park Jin-joo, Jo Hyun-ah) were rediscovered. WSG Wannabe proved their popularity by dominating music charts at the same time as their songs’ release. In particular, GayaG’s “At That Moment” has been at the top of Melon TOP100 for three weeks as well as won No.1 on MBC’s music program “Show! Music Core” on July 23rd.

# 1.39 million YouTube subscribers + a total of 670 million views

The official YouTube and Instagram of “Hangout with Yoo” are becoming another playground for viewers. “Hangout with Yoo” official YouTube was opened on June 12th, 2019, and it has about 1.39 million subscribers and a total of 670 million views. The production team uploads special and unpublished videos that are only released through the corresponding channel. They are also communicating with fans who love “Hangout with Yoo” through the cast’s surprise real-time live broadcasts. “Hangout with Yoo” contents play a significant role in driving the topicality and popularity of the program. In addition, the official Instagram, where behind-the-scenes photos are uploaded, has about 316,000 followers.

While season 1 is filled with Yoo Jae Suk, Season 2 introduced extra members. “Hangout with Yoo” is now preparing for Season 3, which will commence after WSG Wannabe, with production team revealing that they are considering new renovations, concepts, and projects.
