Daniel Henney started modeling in the United States in 2001 and later debuted in Korea through Amore Pacific’s Odyssey Sunrise commercial. Although he has American citizenship and initially did not even know how to speak Korean, Daniel Henney still affirmed that he is a Korean actor throughout his career. He also repeatedly expressed his pride and gratitude for the Korean film industry.

The reason Daniel Henney always identifies himself as a Korean actor is because it was Korea where he had the biggest turning point in his career with the drama “My Lovely Sam Soon,” released in 2005. At that time, the actor could not even speak Korean and have to try really hard to say a few simple lines. However, his accent and loveliness, plus his handsome appearance, made Daniel Henney a phenomenon that attracted a large audience. The sudden rise of his career left Daniel Henney confused. He once admitted that he was not satisfied with his performance in “My Lovely Sam Soon” and it took a lot of time for him to step out of the huge shadow of this work.

After “My Lovely Sam Soon,” Daniel Henney began to spend more time learning Korean. He quickly made himself known in both the Korean and Hollywood markets. However, many did not know that he was rejected in up to 200 auditions simply because he was too self-conscious and could not express himself. “I failed more than 200 auditions. Every time I entered the audition room, I was very scared and self-conscious. Almost every time my body stiffened from stress. So I heard the word ‘no’ again from the producers.” – Daniel Henney shared.

“Try and be rejected, learn and try again… Experience is my greatest weapon. I used to be very tense and impatient, but now I’m a little more relaxed. I can play the main role, supporting role or any role. I have gained confidence,” Daniel Henney also talked more about how to conquer casting sessions after being eliminated so many times.
